Vancouver, BC, February 16, 2016 – Kivalliq Energy Corporation (TSX-V: KIV) (Kivalliq) and Roughrider Exploration Limited (TSX-V: REL) (Roughrider)  today announced results of an integrated assessment of geophysical, geological and geochemical data from select areas of interest at the Genesis Property uranium exploration project in northeast Saskatchewan. The work was undertaken by Condor Consulting Inc. (Condor), recognized experts in the field of integrated exploration.

“Results from the Condor compilation helped identify key priority areas currently being surveyed by FALCON airborne gravity,” stated Kivalliq president Jeff Ward. “Both the Condor work and new gravity data will be invaluable tools for ongoing exploration and target generation at Genesis.”

The compilation and interpretation carried out by Condor focussed on four areas in the northeast portion of the Genesis property, resulting in 31 target zones. Of these, 16 will be evaluated as part of the FALCON airborne gravity gradiometer survey currently underway (see news release February 1, 2016). Four of Condor’s highest priority target zones that fall within gravity survey areas are:

  • Jurgen (J-TZ1): Electromagnetic (EM) conductors are spatially associated with an elevated radiometric response and an anomalous boulder sample result (1.41% U3O8; reported December 1, 2014). The Jurgen area remains the most prospective on the property, hosting 12 of the 31 target zones, including J-TZ2 (Jurgen 2) and J-TZ3 (Jurgen 1);
  • Kingston (K-TZ1): EM conductors trend along a regional geologic contact that is also coincident with a magnetic low, lake sediments having anomalous uranium and several anomalous radiometric responses;
  • Daniels Bay (DB-TZ1): Enzyme leach soil and rock geochemical anomalies are spatially associated with medium to strong northeast to east-west trending EM conductors and a magnetic domain boundary;
  • Melnick (M-TZ1): A north-south strike-slip fault intersects a conductive contact along the boundary of a low magnetic response, coincident with a trend of uranium in lake sediments.

In its assessment of the Jurgen, Kingston/Johnston/GAP, Daniel’s Bay and Melnick areas, Condor conducted comprehensive processing and analysis of airborne surveys flown over Genesis in 2006, 2007 and 2014 (VTEM by Geotech and magnetics, DIGHEM EM, radiometrics by Fugro).  Multiple other data sets that include recent and historic radiometric, soil, vegetation and boulder sampling were incorporated in the interpretation. Condor’s work resulted in a detailed “GeoInterp” which will be used for future geological and structural interpretation.

Exploration conducted on the Genesis Property during 2014 and 2015 by Kivalliq on behalf of Roughrider, successfully outlined numerous high priority targets for basement hosted uranium in previously under-explored terrain northeast of the Athabasca Basin. Kivalliq and Roughrider plan to continue refining and upgrading existing targets while still seeking new ones throughout this large landholding.

Vancouver, B.C. – Kivalliq Energy Corporation (TSX-V: KIV) and Roughrider Exploration Limited (TSX-V: REL) (“Roughrider”) today announced commencement of a 1,677 line-kilometre fixed-wing FALCON airborne gravity gradiometer survey on the Genesis uranium property in northeastern Saskatchewan. CGG Canada Services Ltd. has been contracted to fly the survey and in3D Geoscience Inc. will provide independent review of the data.

The FALCON gravity gradiometer survey will be divided into five separate grids providing coverage over the Jurgen, Kingston, Johnston/GAP, Daniel’s Bay, and Melnick priority target areas. Flight lines will be flown at 200 metre spacing and the survey will also include magnetic and terrain data collection. Gravity low responses potentially represent alteration associated with uranium mineralization. The survey is expected to be completed in early February, with final deliverables expected in March.

Vancouver, B.C. – Kivalliq Energy Corporation (KIV: TSX-V) (Kivalliq) today announced results from soil samples collected in the Dipole-RIB Trend and rock samples collected in the Yat Target area of Kivalliq’s 100% owned, 101,111 hectare (249,851 acre) Angilak Property in Nunavut Territory, Canada.

“Kivalliq’s 2015 exploration program has confirmed that Lac 50-type mineralization exists in multiple trends on the Angilak Property,” stated Kivalliq president Jeff Ward. “The Dipole-RIB Trend has emerged as an area with tremendous exploration potential based on our compilation of previous exploration, the recently drilled Dipole discovery, and now the multiple kilometre-scale coincident geophysical and uranium-in-soil trends identified at RIB.”

Highlights

  • 408 in-fill soil samples in 2015 have defined multiple uranium in soil trends at RIB within a survey grid oriented along and straddling the Angikuni Basin unconformity;
  • Drilling is warranted along four kilometres (km) of subparallel coincident geophysical and geochemical anomalies at RIB;
  • Prospecting  identified favorable host geology and uranium mineralization four km southwest of Dipole and within the RIB geochemical trend;
  • Rock samples further enhanced the Yat uranium-precious metal occurrence, returning the highest precious metal assays reported from the property to date:  1.82% U3O8, 6.8% Cu, 211 g/t Au, 80,900 g/t Ag, 3.1 g/t Pt and 6.7 g/t Pd.

Dipole-RIB Trend

The high priority Dipole-RIB Trend is located approximately 25 km southwest of the Lac 50 resource area, in a northeast trending belt of Archean metavolcanic rocks that are an excellent analogue to Lac 50. The discovery of basement-hosted uranium mineralization at Dipole was announced on October 19, 2015, with all nine holes intersecting significant uranium in the first drill program. The RIB target is located four km south of Dipole and was identified by Noranda Exploration Ltd. (Noranda) in 1976. During 1977-78, 14 of 25 drill holes intersected uranium over one km of strike adjacent to the Angikuni Basin unconformity at depths less than 35 metres (m). Renewed exploration at RIB by Kivalliq in 2014 confirmed a 3.6 km long uranium-in-soil anomaly coincident to, and along a pronounced airborne Versatile Time Domain Electromagnetic (VTEM) conductive trend.

2015 Soil Geochemistry

The 2015 Dipole-RIB exploration program included the collection of 408 soil samples for enzyme leach (EL) analysis. The majority of these samples were collected from the RIB area at 50 m intervals along sample lines spaced 100 m or 200 m apart. The sampling infilled and expanded the RIB soil grid coverage to four km in length along the Angikuni Basin unconformity.  Combined with the 2014 data, the results define a four km long trend of anomalous uranium in soil occurring northeast, southwest and south of the historic Noranda drilling. As demonstrated by the recent drilling of significant uranium mineralization at Dipole, the combination of EL geochemical sampling and geophysical surveying has proven to be an effective tool for successfully discovering basement hosted uranium in the Dipole-RIB Trend. Incorporation of additional data from historic ground geochemical, geophysical and radiometric grids has highlighted specific conductors for follow-up and drill testing of these multiple coincident geochemical-geophysical targets at RIB is warranted. Table 1 shows value ranges and anomalous thresholds for elements of interest from the combined 2014-2015 EL soil sampling programs at RIB.

2015 Prospecting – Dipole-RIB Trend, Yat Target Area

In addition to drilling and geochemical surveys, Kivalliq staff conducted prospecting and mapping in the Dipole-RIB area as part of the 2015 summer exploration program.  This work identified favorable host geology and uranium mineralization along strike southwest of the new Dipole discovery, within in the RIB geochemical trend and further enhanced the Yat uranium-precious metal occurrence located 10 km to the northeast (see Table 2).

Dipole-RIB Trend

Prospecting along trend of Dipole discovered a small outcrop of strongly hematized, radioactive mafic tuff with carbonate veining/alteration and sulfides, 4.5 km southwest of the Dipole drilling. Uranium mineralization in this altered volcanic rock is similar to zones drilled at both Dipole and Lac 50, with radioactivity continuing southwest under the overburden.  A grab sample of surface rubble contained pitchblende nuggets and assayed 0.76% U3O8, 0.30% Mo and 14.9 g/t Ag (sample 16859).  When combined with geochemical anomalies and several other historic uranium showings along this basement trend, this new occurrence demonstrates the potential for further uranium discoveries southwest of Dipole.

Similarly, cobbles collected from radioactive soil found near anomalous 2015 EL geochemical samples on the RIB grid assayed 6.27% U3O8, 0.26% Cu 1.16% Mo and 144 g/t Ag (sample 16853). This sample confirms and prioritizes this parallel geochemical and geophysical trend located 500 m south of the historic RIB drilling by Noranda.  

Yat Target Area

The Yat area is located 15.6 km southwest of Lac 50 and 10 km northeast of Dipole near the northern margin of the Angikuni Basin. The trend locally comprises a 100 m long string of sulphide-bearing radioactive subcrops and historic pits in basin conglomerate and sandstone. The Yat area is characterized by a strong magnetic low with coincident high grade polymetallic U-Cu-Ag-Au (Pt-Pd) mineralized zones. Previous work in the in late 1970’s and early 1980’s included U-Cu-Mo-Ag-Pb soil surveys, trenching and four drill holes. There is no historic record of rock analysis for Au, Ag, or PGM’s. Work in the area by Kivalliq between 2007 and 2012 included ground gravity, Mag-VLF surveys, and four shallow reverse circulation holes in 2011 that failed to intersect significant uranium mineralization.  A grab sample collected by Kivalliq in 2007 returned 31.9 g/t Au, 1170 g/t Ag, 1.18% Cu and 0.25% U3O8 from brecciated quartz-carbonate veined float and trenches. Follow-up samples in 2010 confirmed and improved on these grab values, with 1.44% U3O8, 1140 g/t Ag, and 12.90 g/t Au.

Kivalliq staff revisited Yat in 2015 to resample the area for the purpose of incorporating this high grade uranium-precious metal occurrence into future exploration at Dipole-RIB. One of three boulder grab samples within hydrothermally altered host rocks situated on the edge of a pronounced 250 m wide magnetic low at Yat returned the highest precious metal assays ever reported from the Angilak Property: 1.82% U3O8, 6.8% Cu, 211 g/t Au, 80,900 g/t Ag, 3.1 g/t Pt and 6.7 g/t Pd (sample 16854). Yat has emerged as a unique, high-grade uranium-precious metal occurrence, making it a compelling and unexplained target which will be evaluated during future programs at the Dipole-RIB Trend.

Three grab samples collected five km north of Lac 50 at Fox Lake also returned anomalous uranium and silver values which warrant follow-up.

QA/QC

Enzyme leach (EL) soil samples were sent to Activation Laboratories Ltd. (Actlabs). The Actlabs facility is accredited to international quality standards through the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 (ISO/IEC 17025 includes ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 specifications) with CAN-P-1578 (Forensics), CAN-P-1579 (Mineral Analysis) and CAN-P-1585 (Environmental) for specific registered tests by the SCC. For EL soil sample analysis, a 0.75 gram sample of B soil horizon is leached in an enzyme matrix for one hour, where it reacts with amorphous MnO2 dissolving it. Metals complex with the acid present and solutions are analyzed and reported in ppb with a detection limit of >0.1 ppb U. QA/QC includes field standards, blanks and duplicates, and those inserted by the Actlabs. All QA/QC results were within expectations.

Rock samples were sent to the Saskatchewan Research Council (“SRC”) for analysis. The SRC facility operates in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 (CAN-P-4E), General Requirements for the Competence of Mineral Testing and Calibration laboratories and is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada. Rock samples are first analyzed by SRC's ICP-OES multi-element Uranium exploration ICP1 method. ICP results U>1,000 ppm are analyzed using SRC's ISO/IEC 17025:2005-accredited U3O8 Assay method. Laboratory quality control (QC) includes a repeat analysis on every 20th sample. Certain samples were also subject to SRC’s Au3 standard Fire Assay procedures for Au, Pt and Pd. All QA/QC results for rocks samples were within expectations.

Previous exploration results by Noranda Exploration Ltd. and Pan Ocean Oil Ltd. reported herein are historic in nature and although not verified by Kivalliq, this work was carried out by knowledgeable explorers using acceptable industry practices at the time.     • 2.34% U3O8 over 1.3 metres (m) from 28.3 m to 29.6 m in 15-DP-009
    • 0.21% U3O8 over 6.7 m from 46.4 m to 53.1 m in 15-DP-009
    • 0.17% U3O8 over 8.0 m from 27.9 m to 35.9 m in 15-DP-005
    • 0.18% U3O8 over 6.7 m from 35.5 m to 42.2 m in 15-DP-006

 “The Dipole discovery confirms that high-grade Lac 50-type uranium mineralization occurs in other areas across the Angilak Property,” stated Kivalliq president Jeff Ward. “The assays from Dipole returned significant near surface uranium mineralization over broad widths. Dipole Drill Program Summary

The new Dipole discovery is located within the Dipole-RIB Trend, approximately 25 kilometres southwest of the Lac 50 deposits, in a northeast trending belt of Archean metavolcanic basement rocks that is an excellent analogue to Lac 50. The Dipole drill program was designed to test the centre of a prominent two kilometre (km) long very low frequency electromagnetic (VLF-EM) conductor, having a coincident 3.4 km long uranium-in-soil anomaly. A total of 958 m were drilled in nine core holes using one of three diamond drill rigs currently on site. Holes were drilled at an azimuth of 135 degrees with inclinations between minus 45 and minus 90 degrees from four set-ups spaced 50 m apart.

The initial drilling at Dipole has outlined a 25 m to 48 m wide zone of multiple, steeply dipping mineralized intervals hosted in a sequence of structurally weak pyroclastic horizons. All nine holes intersected shallow uranium at vertical depths ranging from 15 m to 110 m and along 150 m of strike length.  Multiple mineralized intercepts in all holes had intervals ranging from 1.0 m to 8.0 m down-hole. Mineralization at Dipole is associated with sheared/brecciated hematite-carbonate-chlorite altered graphitic tuff units, containing pitchblende and sulphides, within a sequence of mafic to intermediate tuffs and massive to pillowed basalt. Similar to the Lac 50 analogue, molybdenum and silver occur with, and adjacent to the uranium mineralization at Dipole.  The Dipole zone remains open in all directions.

The 2015 summer exploration program at Angilak included drilling at the Dipole zone, as well as a prospecting and soil sampling campaign at the RIB target, located four km south of Dipole. The program was completed for approximately $900,000; substantially under the $1.5 million initially budgeted. Results from the 2015 follow-up soil geochemical surveying and prospecting in the Dipole-RIB trend are pending.

QA/QC

Half-spilt NQ core samples from Angilak Property drill holes were sent to the Saskatchewan Research Council Geoanalytical Laboratories (“SRC”) for analysis. The SRC facility operates in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 (CAN-P-4E), General Requirements for the Competence of Mineral Testing and Calibration laboratories and is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada. The samples are first analyzed by SRC’s ICP-OES multi-element Uranium exploration ICP1 method. The method analyzes for multi-elements including Ag, Mo, Cu, Pb, Zn and a suite of rare earth elements. ICP results U>1,000 parts per million (ppm) are analyzed using SRC’s ISO/IEC 17025:2005-accredited U3O8 Assay method. Laboratory quality control (QC) includes a repeat analysis on every 20th sample. Repeat samples had good reproducibility. Kivalliq’s quality assurance and quality control procedures include the systematic insertion of blanks and standards into the drill core sample string. All QA/QC results were within expectations.

Vancouver, B.C. – Kivalliq Energy Corporation (KIV: TSX-V) (“Kivalliq”) today announced the results from the summer exploration program at Kivalliq’s 100% owned Hatchet Lake Property in the Athabasca Region of Saskatchewan.

“Results from Kivalliq’s first exploration program at the Hatchet Lake property have confirmed and enhanced basement hosted uranium targets identified by previous operators Hathor and Rio Tinto. Further work to advance the project in 2016 is warranted,” stated Jeff Ward, Kivalliq’s President. “Based on Hatchet Lake’s strategic location near all of Canada’s uranium mining and milling infrastructure, a discovery here would have significant development advantages.”

The 13,711 hectare (33,881 acre) Hatchet Lake Property is situated on the Mudjatik-Wollaston Transition Zone, 39 kilometres along trend from Rio Tinto’s Roughrider deposit and within 29 kilometres of Cameco Corporation’s Eagle Point uranium mine. The 2015 program budgeted at $500,000 was designed to verify airborne geophysical signatures and confirm uranium anomalism in priority target areas. 

Highlights of the 2015 program include:

  • 908 soil and 1322 vegetation (biogeochemical) samples verified historic results and identified priority target areas at Upper Manson and SW Scrimes, both having soil and vegetation geochemical uranium anomalies;
  • 140 line kilometres of ground magnetic and VLF EM geophysical surveying resolved multiple conductive trends and geology at Upper Manson and on the Scrimes Peninsula;
  • Grab samples at SW Scrimes returned values up to 2.43% U3O8 from pegmatite boulders and 0.68% U3O8 from a new pegmatitic occurrence in outcrop;
  • Comprehensive processing and analysis of all available datasets by Condor Consulting Inc. (Condor) generated a new “Geointerp” for the Property with 17 prioritized target zones, four of which are considered high-priority and correspond to Kivalliq’s key target areas.

Two high-priority zones, Upper Manson and SW Scrimes, have emerged based on work to date. The Upper Manson and SW Scrimes targets occur within northeast trending pelitic and psammopelitic gneiss host rocks and are highlighted by uranium anomalism noted in historic samples from boulders, lake sediments, soils and vegetation. Work by Kivalliq in 2015 was able to confirm anomalous uranium geochemistry in all six areas sampled (soil and vegetation), as well as upgrade the geological and structural model for Hatchet mineralization through Condor’s independent analysis. Soil Geochemical Sampling
A total of 826 Enzyme Leach (EL) soil samples were collected and sent for ICP-MS geochemical analysis.  Background was the 96th percentile at 2.70 parts per billion (ppb) U and was determined by the mean plus one standard deviation (Table 1). Anomalous values were identified in all six grids sampled in 2015. In addition, 82 conventional soil samples were collected at Upper Manson to calibrate the 2015 EL soil results to earlier soil values reported by Hathor Exploration Ltd (Hathor).  

Vegetation (Biogeochemical) Sampling
A total of 1322 black spruce twig vegetation (biogeochemical) samples were collected and sent for Ashed Vegetation 59 element ICP-MS bio-geochemical analysis. Background was calculated at 1.36 parts per million (ppm U), the 87th percentile using the mean plus one standard deviation (Table 1). Anomalous values were identified in all six grids sampled in 2015.

Results from the 2015 program confirmed the efficacy of black spruce sampling as a reliable geochemical method. When used in conjunction with geophysical surveys and soil geochemistry, vegetation sampling is proving to be an effective tool to advance targets.

Prospecting
The 2015 prospecting program included the collection of 24 grab samples from outcrop and boulders primarily in the Upper Manson and SW Scrimes areas. Samples were mainly collected from pegmatites and leucogranites which represent the majority of exposed radioactive rocks in the Property area. Of significance, the SW Scrimes area returned values of 2.43% U3O8 and 1.39% U3O8 respectively from boulder float at a known occurrence on the north side of Scrimes Lake. A sample from a new radioactive pegmatite outcrop discovered on the south side of Scrimes Lake assayed 0.68% U3O8. Anomalous grab samples at Upper Manson confirmed the extent, location and setting of historic uranium occurrences.

Ground Geophysical Surveying
Ground magnetic and VLF-EM surveys were carried out on four grids at Hatchet Lake. Approximately 140 line kilometres of ground geophysics focussed on geochemically anomalous areas and priority airborne versatile time domain EM (VTEM) conductors. Grid lines were spaced 50 and 100 metres apart, with readings taken at 12.5 metre intervals. The survey grids are dominated by northeast trending magnetic features with prominent north trending faulting. The VLF-EM surveys were able to resolve tightly spaced, multiple, shallow conductive trends in both the Upper Manson and Scrimes Peninsula grids, areas where the airborne VTEM suggested broader, singular conductive responses.

Condor Consulting Inc. Geophysical Interpretation
As part of the 2015 program, Condor Consulting Inc. conducted comprehensive processing and analysis of two airborne surveys flown over the Property in 2007 (airborne VTEM by Geotech and high resolution  airborne magnetics by Goldak). Multiple other data sets compiled by Kivalliq that include radiometric, soil, vegetation and boulder sampling data (2006 and 2012) were incorporated in the interpretation. Condor’s work resulted in a detailed “GeoInterp” which will be used for future geological and structural interpretation. In addition, Condor independently identified 17 target zones, four of which are considered high-priority and correspond to Kivalliq’s key target areas.

QA/QC
Jeff Ward, P.Geo., President of Kivalliq and a Qualified Person for Kivalliq, has reviewed and approved the publicly available scientific and technical information by previous exploration groups contained in this release. Previous exploration results by Hathor and Rio Tinto referred to herein are historical in nature and have not been verified by Kivalliq. However, Kivalliq believes these results are relevant since programs were carried out by knowledgeable explorers in accordance with acceptable industry practices at the time.

Rock and conventional soil samples from the Hatchet Lake Property were sent to the Saskatchewan Research Council (“SRC”) for analysis. The SRC facility operates in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 (CAN-P-4E), General Requirements for the Competence of Mineral Testing and Calibration laboratories and is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada. Rock samples are first analyzed by SRC's ICP-OES multi-element Uranium exploration ICP1 method. ICP results U>1,000 ppm are analyzed using SRC's ISO/IEC 17025:2005-accredited U3O8 Assay method. Conventional soil samples undergo standard geochemical analysis using ICP-MS. Laboratory quality control (QC) includes a repeat analysis on every 20th sample. All QA/QC results for both rocks and conventional soil samples were within expectations.

Enzyme leach (EL) soil samples and vegetation (biogeochemical) samples were sent to Activation Laboratories Ltd. (Actlabs). The Actlabs facility is accredited to international quality standards through the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 (ISO/IEC 17025 includes ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 specifications) with CAN-P-1578 (Forensics), CAN-P-1579 (Mineral Analysis) and CAN-P-1585 (Environmental) for specific registered tests by the SCC. For EL soil sample analysis, a 0.75 gram sample of B soil horizon is leached in an enzyme matrix for one hour, where it reacts with amorphous MnO2 dissolving it. Metals complex with the acid present and solutions are analyzed and reported in ppb with a detection limit of  >0.1 ppb U. Vegetation samples were processed using the “ashed vegetation” 59 element ICP/MS biogeochemical analysis method, reported in ppm, with a detection limit of 0.001 ppm U. QA/QC includes field standards, blanks and duplicates, and those inserted by the Actlabs. All QA/QC results were within expectations.

Ground magnetic and VLF-EM surveying was conducted by SJ Geophysics Ltd using GEM GSM-19 magnetometer units. The VLF-EM survey instrumentation was on board the GEM magnetometers and collected data from transmission stations at Jim Creek (Seattle), Washington transmitting at 24.8 kHz and Cutler, Maine transmitting at 24.0 kHz. QA/QC was provided SJ Geophysics Ltd and by in3D Geophysics Ltd.

Condor Consulting Inc. are recognized experts in the field of airborne electromagnetics and were retained to perform a detailed interpretation on aeromagnetic surveys flown in 2007 over the Hatchet Lake Property by Hathor Exploration Ltd.

Vancouver, B.C. – Kivalliq Energy Corporation (KIV: TSX-V) (“Kivalliq”) today announced that the first exploration drilling of the previously untested Dipole target has discovered multiple, steeply dipping, parallel radioactive intercepts contained within a new zone that is between 35 to 48 metres wide. This new discovery at Dipole clearly demonstrates that complementary geophysical and geochemical surveys are very effective tools for successfully targeting exploration drilling on Kivalliq’s 100% owned, 105,280 hectare (260,154 acre) Angilak Property in Nunavut Territory, Canada.

Drilling Summary:

  • All nine holes from the inaugural core drilling program at Dipole intersected anomalous radioactivity (see description in  Table 1 below);
  • Dipole is a 35 to 48 metre wide zone hosting one to four steeply dipping, parallel mineralized drill intercepts, at a vertical depth of between 15 and 110 metres and along strike approximately 150 metres;
  • Multiple down hole intercepts which are between 0.3 to 6.7 metres wide have elevated to significantly radioactive intervals  (>300 to 18,800 counts per second “cps”);
  • The highest radioactive interval (up to 18,800 cps) on the eastern-most set-up is more than 650 metres away from a high grade boulder (2.24% U308) found along strike to the southwest.

“Discovering this new and significantly radioactive zone at Dipole confirms that Lac 50-type mineralization exists in multiple trends on the Angilak Property and supports our belief we have an important uranium district in Nunavut,” stated Kivalliq president Jeff Ward. “In addition, the potential of the Dipole-RIB trend is enhanced by several kilometres of coincident geophysical and soil geochemical anomalies not yet tested by drilling.“

Soil Geochemical Summary:

  • In conjunction with geophysics, geochemical sampling (enzyme leach "EL") has proven to be a valuable exploration tool for detecting subsurface mineralization in both the Lac 50 and the Dipole-RIB Trend;
  • 408 additional infill soil samples were collected along a 3.6 kilometre long uranium geochemical anomaly adjacent to the unconformity at RIB and will help delineate drill targets;
  • Additional follow-up exploration, that includes drilling and surface sampling, is warranted along more than two kilometers of combined geophysical and geochemical anomalies at both the Dipole and RIB Trends.

Assay results from the drilling and geochemical sampling on the Dipole-RIB trend are expected within six to eight weeks.

Dipole-RIB Trend

The Dipole-RIB Trend is located approximately 25 kilometres southwest of the Lac 50 deposits, in a northeast trending belt of Archean metavolcanic rocks that are an excellent analogue to Lac 50.

This first drill program (2015) at Dipole was designed to test the centre of a prominent two kilometre long very low frequency electromagnetic (“VLF-EM”) conductor and a coincident 3.4 kilometre long uranium-in-soil anomaly. Field crews were mobilized in July and total of 958 metres were drilled in nine holes using one of three diamond drill rigs already on site. The 2015 exploration program at Angilak has been completed for approximately CDN$900,000, which is substantially under the CDN $1.5 million initially budgeted.

The nine holes drilled at Dipole, along 150 metres of strike length, encountered elevated to significantly radioactive (>300 to 18,800 cps) intervals ranging from 0.3 to 6.7 metres wide, within a zone 35 to 48 metres wide.  All holes were drilled from four set-ups spaced 50 metres apart, at an azimuth of 135 degrees and with inclinations between minus 45 and minus 90 degrees. Mineralization and radioactivity are associated with sheared/brecciated hematite-carbonate altered graphitic tuff units, containing pitchblende and sulphides. The highest radioactive interval which resulted in up to 18,800 cps within DDH15-DP-009 was intersected on the eastern-most set-up and more than 650 metres along strike to the northeast from a high grade boulder found in 2011, which assayed 2.24% U308.

The RIB target is located four kilometres south of Dipole and was identified by Noranda Exploration Ltd. in 1976. During 1977-78, 14 of 25 diamond drill holes intersected uranium mineralization adjacent to the Angikuni Basin unconformity at depths of less than 35 metres, with the two best intercepts being 0.19% U308 over 9.3 metres (including 0.52% U308 over 2.6 metres) and 1.61% U308 over 0.7 metres. Exploration by Kivalliq in 2014 confirmed a 3.6 kilometre long uranium-in-soil anomaly with an associated airborne Versatile Time Domain Electromagnetic (“VTEM”) conductive trend. As part of the 2015 program, additional ground geochemical sampling and prospecting was carried out in the RIB target area.

A total of 408 EL soil samples were collected in order to in-fill the previous grid to 100 and 200 metre spaced lines, with samples collected at 50 metre intervals along survey lines.  The combination of geophysics and EL geochemical sampling has proven to be an effective tool for detecting mineralization in the Dipole-RIB Trend and it is expected that new soil data from the 2015 program will delineate new drill targets at RIB.

QA/QC

Natural gamma radiation was measured in counts per second (cps) using a hand-held RS-230 gamma spectrometer manufactured by Radiation Solutions Inc.  Spectrometer readings are not directly related to uranium grade and are only used to indicate gamma radioactive intervals that may be of interest. Anomalous readings ranged from 300 to 18,800 cps and all holes drilled resulted in anomalous values. This is compared with a background of 150 to 250 cps in adjacent rocks.  All drill intervals noted are down hole with true widths of intervals yet to be determined.

Split drill core samples from mineralized intervals have been submitted to the Saskatchewan Research Council Geoanalytical Laboratories (SRC) for chemical analysis. Soil samples have been sent to Activation Laboratories Ltd. (Actlabs) in Ancaster, Ontario for 67 element ICP-MS Enzyme Leach analysis.

Previous exploration results by Noranda Exploration Ltd reported herein are historic in nature and although not verified by Kivalliq, this work was carried out by knowledgeable explorers using acceptable industry practices at the time.

Vancouver, B.C. – Kivalliq Energy Corporation (KIV: TSX-V) (“Kivalliq”) today commenced exploration at the Company’s Angilak Property in Nunavut Territory, Canada. The focus of the program will be drill testing the high priority Dipole target and advancing multiple uranium targets in the Dipole-RIB Trend through geochemical surveying.

Dipole-RIB Trend

The first phase of a CDN$1.5 million 2015 exploration program has commenced at Kivalliq’s 100% owned, 105,280 hectare (260,154 acre) Angilak Property. Staff and supplies were mobilized to the existing Nutaaq camp in late June. Kivalliq plans to drill up to 1000 metres in six holes at Dipole in July, using one of three diamond drill rigs already on site. Ground geochemical surveying will run concurrently with the drill program, following-up on high priority targets identified during the 2014 season at Dipole and RIB.

“We are very excited to start the 2015 exploration program at Angilak, especially the drill testing of our Dipole target,” stated Jeff Ward, Kivalliq’s President. “The discovery of a high grade, Lac 50-type uranium deposit at Dipole would confirm our belief that this large property hosts an important uranium district in Nunavut.”

The Dipole-RIB Trend is located approximately 25 kilometres southwest of Lac 50, in a northeast trending belt of Archean metavolcanic rock interpreted to be equivalent to Lac 50 resource host rocks. Based on corroborative geophysical and geochemical exploration, Dipole and RIB are excellent analogues to the Lac 50 deposit.

In 1980, historic work by Pan Ocean Oil Ltd identified several uranium prospects in the Dipole target area, including a grab boulder sample 2.5 kilometres to the north assaying 8.41% U3O8 and 5.38% Cu. Subsequent work by Kivalliq outlined a prominent two kilometre long very-low frequency electromagnetic (VLF-EM) conductor coincident with previously undiscovered mineralized boulders. One angular boulder assayed 2.24% U3O8 and 116 g/t Ag. Enzyme Leach (EL) soil sampling conducted by Kivalliq in 2014 outlined a 3.4 kilometre long uranium-in-soil trend along this VLF-EM conductor, making Dipole the most advanced, drill-ready target on the Angilak Property.

The RIB target, located four kilometres south of Dipole, was identified by Noranda Exploration Ltd. in 1976 as a one kilometre long basement conductor on the western margin of the Angikuni Basin unconformity. During 1977-78, 14 of 25 diamond drill holes intersected uranium mineralization at shallow depths (less than 35 metres), with the two best intercepts being 0.19% U3O8 over 9.3 metres (including 0.52% U3O8 over 2.6 metres) and 1.61% U3O8 over 0.7 metres. Exploration by Kivalliq in 2014 confirmed the RIB conductor using airborne Versatile Time Domain Electromagnetic (VTEM) geophysics. EL soil samples also outlined a corresponding 3.6 kilometre long uranium geochemical trend, demonstrating that historic work tested only a portion of the RIB target. Due to geological similarities with both Dipole and Lac 50, the RIB target warrants further infill geochemical work in 2015.

Previous exploration results by Pan Ocean Oil Ltd and Noranda Exploration Ltd referred to above are historic in nature and have not been verified by Kivalliq. However, Kivalliq believes these results are relevant because they are indicative of mineralized zones worthy of follow-up exploration since they are based on exploration carried out by knowledgeable explorers in accordance with acceptable industry practices at the time.

Vancouver, B.C. – Kivalliq Energy Corporation (KIV: TSX-V) (“Kivalliq”) today announced the completion of the summer exploration program at Kivalliq’s 100% owned Hatchet Lake Property in the Athabasca Region of Saskatchewan.

“High quality data collected between 2006 and 2012 by previous operators Hathor and Rio Tinto gave us a tremendous head start on Kivalliq’s first program at Hatchet Lake,” stated Jeff Ward, Kivalliq’s President. “By getting on the ground this summer, we enhanced the existing datasets and can determine next steps based on new prospecting, soil and biogeochemical program results which are expected sometime in August.”

Kivalliq conducted its first exploration program at the 13,711 hectare (33,881 acre) Hatchet Lake Property between June 1 and June 23. The focus was on multiple unconformity-related basement targets based on results from over $750,000 in previous exploration performed by Hathor Exploration Limited (Hathor) and Rio Tinto Canada Uranium Corporation (Rio Tinto).

Kivalliq’s 2015 summer program, budgeted at CDN$500,000, was comprised of prospecting, mapping, ground magnetometer / very low frequency (VLF) electromagnetic (EM) geophysical surveys, and biogeochemical (vegetation-black spruce) /soil geochemical surveys. The program was designed to verify airborne geophysical signatures and confirm uranium anomalism in priority areas:

  • Six target areas were evaluated based on existing datasets from previous exploration groups;
  • 140 line kilometres of ground geophysical surveying refined and located airborne signatures;
  • 908 soil and 1322 biogeochemical samples were collected in areas of historically reported uranium anomalism in boulders, soils, vegetation and lake sediments;
  • Two high-priority zones, Upper Manson and SW Scrimes, have emerged based on preliminary findings;
  • 24 radioactive rock samples (boulders and outcrop) have been sent for analysis.

The Upper Manson and SW Scrimes targets occur within north east trending pelitic and psammopelitic gneiss host rocks and were prioritized by uranium anomalism noted in historic samples from boulders, lake sediments, soils and vegetation coincident to EM conductive trends and interpreted structurally complexities. Kivalliq was able to confirm the location of anomalous boulders and outcrop reported in both the Upper Manson and SW Scrimes areas. Radioactive quartz- feldspar-biotite pegmatitic boulders, subcrop and outcrop were encountered during the program. Twenty-four rock samples with readings between 265 and 14,000 counts per second (cps) measured on a handheld scintillometer have been sent for assay analysis.

Ground magnetic and VLF-EM surveys were carried out on four grids at Hatchet Lake. Approximately 140 line kilometres of ground geophysics focussed on geochemically anomalous areas and priority airborne versatile time domain EM conductors (VTEM). Grid lines were spaced 50 and 100 metres apart, with readings taken at 12.5 metre intervals.

Hatchet Lake is located 39 kilometres along trend from Rio Tinto’s Roughrider deposit and within 29 kilometres of Cameco Corporation’s Eagle Point uranium mine. The Hatchet Lake Property was initially staked for its potential to host significant uranium deposits, being situated on the Mudjatik-Wollaston Transition Zone and along strike from world class mines such as McArthur River and Cigar Lake.

Vancouver, BC – Kivalliq Energy Corporation (TSX V: KIV) (Kivalliq) and Roughrider Exploration Limited (TSX V: REL) today announced the results from the ground magnetometer and very low frequency (VLF) electromagnetic (EM) geophysical and biogeochemical sampling surveys completed March 30, 2015 at the Jurgen 1 and Jurgen 2 targets. The Jurgen 1 and Jurgen 2 uranium target areas are located in the western portion of the Genesis property on Wellbelove Bay of Wollaston Lake, eastern Athabasca, approximately 60 kilometres along the Wollaston-Mudjatik lithostructural corridor from Cameco Corporation’s Eagle Point uranium mine.

The Jurgen 1 and Jurgen 2 ground geophysical and biogeochemical grids for the Genesis 2015 winter exploration program were designed to follow-up and tighten spacing on anomalous 2014 soil geochemical results coincident with northeast trending airborne EM geophysical conductors. In the Athabasca region, EM conductors often represent graphitic horizons in pelitic rocks that are a common host for uranium mineralization. Breaks in the general EM and magnetic trends in conjunction with elevated geochemistry may indicate structural disturbances that can be important to uranium mineralization emplacement.

“Results from the 2015 winter program at Genesis continue to upgrade priority target areas such as Jurgen 1 and 2,” stated Kivalliq’s President, Jeff Ward. “These results will be integrated with previous work to help prioritize and rank targets for future drilling.”

Ground magnetic and VLF-EM surveys were performed on two grids over the Jurgen 1 and Jurgen 2 areas during March. Approximately 70 line kilometres of ground geophysics covered on geochemically anomalous areas coincident with priority airborne EM conductors. Grid lines were spaced 50 and 100 metres apart, with readings taken at 12.5 and 20 metre intervals.  A total of 594 biogeochemical samples (black spruce twigs) were collected on the same survey grids at 25 to 50 metre intervals.

Approximately three kilometres separate the Jurgen 1 and Jurgen 2 grids, which are located roughly 80 kilometres northeast of Points North (see figures provided at http://kivalliqenergy.com/uranium/genesis/ additional details of these two priority areas are provided below and in a news release dated March 31, 2015).       

Jurgen 1 remains a compelling target demonstrating good spatial correlation between:

  1. The highest uranium results from the 2015 biogeochemical program;
  2. The highest uranium results from the 2014 enzyme leach soil sampling program (see news release December 1, 2014); and
  3. The main Jurgen 1 EM conductive trend.

At Jurgen 1, eight of 249 samples returned values above the 98th percentile for uranium and twenty-one samples returned values above the 95th percentile. The three highest uranium values from the 2015 program were from samples coincident with the main Jurgen 1 conductor; 1.35ppm U, 1.64ppm U and 1.75ppm U. At Jurgen 2, eight of 296 biogeochemical samples returned values above the 95th percentile for uranium. The highest uranium value on the Jurgen 2 grid was 1.26ppm U.

Biogeochemistry results at the Jurgen 1 and Jurgen 2 grid areas also show anomalous associated metals (Pb, Ni, Cu, Mo, Ag) although their distributions are not conclusive. Anomalous Ni and Pb values accompany anomalous U values in places and in the case of Ni at Jurgen 1, appear to flank the south contact of the main Jurgen 1 EM conductor. At Jurgen 2, the VLF-EM survey suggests a possible structural feature that disrupts the EM conductors mapped. Biogeochemical results for uranium at Jurgen 2 show a more subtle correlation to both the 2014 enzyme leach soil sample results and the airborne EM conductors targeted, but seem to extend to the Jurgen 1 conductor that passes through the south portion of the grid.

At the Sava Lake prospect, approximately 25 kilometres east of Jurgen 2, anomalies in uranium and pathfinder elements identified in reconnaissance level biogeochemical sampling completed to date lack the cohesion to warrant immediate follow-up.

QA/QC

Geophysical data review was provided by in3D Geophysics Ltd. and SJ Geophysics Ltd. The VLF-EM survey instrumentation was on board the GEM GSM-19 magnetometer units and collected data from transmission stations at Jim Creek (Seattle), Washington transmitting at 24.8 kHz and Cutler, Maine transmitting at 24.0 kHz.

Genesis Property biogeochemical samples were sent to Activation Laboratories Ltd. (Actlabs), which is accredited to international quality standards through the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 (ISO/IEC 17025 includes ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 specifications) with CAN-P-1578 (Forensics), CAN-P-1579 (Mineral Analysis) and CAN-P-1585 (Environmental) for specific registered tests by the SCC. After a review of biogeochemical analysis methods, Roughrider and Kivalliq elected to use the “ashed vegetation” 59 element ICP/MS bio-geochemical analysis method reported herein rather than the “un-ashed vegetation” 63 element ICP/MS bio-geochemical analysis method used in 2014. Consequently, results from 2015 are reported in parts per million (ppm), with a detection limit of 0.001 ppm U, rather than parts per billion (ppb) as reported in 2014. Biogeochemical samples were dried and the needles were removed from the black spruce twigs before the twigs were ashed for ICP-MS analysis.  A QA/QC review of all geochemical results was undertaken; standards, field blanks and duplicates from the field, and those inserted by the Actlabs as controls, were reviewed graphically for a number of elements. All QA/QC results were within expectations. Percentiles are calculated on the entire 594 sample population from all three sample grid areas.

Kivalliq also holds a 100% interest in the 200,677 hectare Genesis Property located northeast of Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin, with Roughrider Exploration Limited funding the current exploration program pursuant to an option to acquire up to an 85% interest in the property. This highly prospective project is located along the Wollaston-Mudjatik trend and extends 90 kilometres northeast from the Athabasca Basin to the Manitoba border.

Vancouver, B.C. – Kivalliq Energy Corporation (KIV: TSX-V) (“Kivalliq”) today announced the commencement of the summer exploration program at Kivalliq’s 100% owned Hatchet Lake Property in Saskatchewan.

Hatchet Lake (Athabasca Region of Saskatchewan, Canada)

Kivalliq has started the Company’s first exploration program at the 13,711 hectare (33,881 acre) Hatchet Lake Property, with crews mobilized to Points North/project area in the first week of June. This summer’s exploration will focus on multiple unconformity-related basement targets based on results from over $750,000 in previous exploration performed by Hathor Exploration Limited and Rio Tinto Canada Uranium Corporation (Rio Tinto).

The proposed summer program is budgeted at CDN$500,000 and includes prospecting, mapping, geochemical sampling and ground geophysics to verify airborne geophysical signatures in priority target areas.

Hatchet Lake is located 39 kilometres along trend from Rio Tinto’s Roughrider deposit and within 29 kilometres of Cameco Corporation’s Eagle Point uranium mine. The Hatchet Lake Property was initially staked for its potential to host significant uranium deposits, being situated on the Mudjatik-Wollaston Transition Zone and along strike from world class mines such as McArthur River and Cigar Lake.
